“I was surrounded by women who were doing wonderful deeds and work within their communities and I wanted a place to spotlight them.”

Marcy Simmons is a mother of four and self-described “professional volunteer” Marcy just took supporting a cause she believes in to a whole new level. Enter the Penelope House Project, an initiative she recently launched to raise awareness and funding for a family shelter in her hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Did you know that in the U.S., according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a staggering 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been physically abused by an intimate partner? And every 9 seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten? Utterly shocking when you stop to think about it. Penelope House not only provides temporary shelter and resources for victims of domestic violence and their children, but also works to raise public awareness and drive prevention through education. Penelope House also holds a special place in Marcy’s heart. When she was a young girl, the shelter saved the life of a close family member, thus having a lasting impact on her own life. The projects goal was to raise $25,000 and it accomplished that goal! I admire her most because of the type of friend she is. She wants to know all of you...the good bad and ugly, She is a great role model for moms juggling work and home life while still finding time to take care of herself. She has a servants heart and I admire that most.
